There’s a line toward the end of today’s gospel that seems quite hard to believe…the “epitome of hyperbole” one might say…if lucky enough to spell and pronounce that phrase correctly. (I had great English teachers in high school!) The sentence is this: (Jesus is speaking) Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever believes in my will do the works that I do, and will do greater ones than these…” (John 14)

WHAT? Greater works (miracles) than Jesus? Well, yes. That’s what he said. Do you believe that? Think about the marvelous things that have been going on in the last century even…the ways people have uncovered or created miraculous cures…for the Coronavirus, for example….

Jan Phillips wrote a song about this gospel. It’s called “Follow Your Heart’s Desire” and speaks of how we might achieve what that gospel verse is pointing out. It’s worth a listen.
