birdsingI am often reminded that I take things too seriously. In doing so, I sometimes become so focused that I miss the playful side of life. I have been observing myself lately and trying to lighten up. This morning the psalm gave me a nudge when the first line was All you peoples, clap your hands; shout to God with cries of gladness! (PS 47:2) Then Jesus said in the gospel: Whatever you ask the Father in my name he will give you…Ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete. (JN 16:23) The birds are deep in conversation and singing wildly this morning so I’m taking my cue from them. What I hear is an old song: I’ve got that joy, joy, joy, joy down in my heart…

Won’t you join the birds and me?
