Although there is much to ponder in today’s readings, I keep hearing a line from the first reading (IS 26:7-19) that wakes me up to the truth of how things happen. It says: O Lord, you mete out peace to us, for it is you who have accomplished all that we have done.
Isaiah could have said, “Lord, make sure I stay clear about how things happen in my life. Keep me conscious that you are behind my every achievement.” Rather than diminishing my worth, that recognition elevates me to a partnership that is as good as it gets while at the same time keeping me humble since I know I can’t do anything without God.
Who wouldn’t think that was enough?
