IMG_9815Today’s readings are filled with the theme of light. I found a progression of thought by starting at the gospel (Mt 5) – a familiar one – where Jesus tells the people: “YOU are the light of the world!” The prophet Isaiah (ch 58) gives a description of just how we are to act as light. He says: “Share your bread with the hungry, shelter the oppressed and the homeless; clothe the naked when you see them, and do not turn your back on your own. Then your light shall break forth like the dawn…” Psalm 112 tells of the result of our shining light: “Well for the one who is gracious and lends, who conducts all affairs with justice. “S/he shall never be moved; the just one shall be in everlasting remembrance.

The sun is shining this morning, adding brilliance to the snow and allowing a little relief to those suffering from so many storms. How will I add my light to the world today? How will you?
